What you will learn:

Occupational hearing loss is a slow-motion occupational accident. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention notes that 22 million American workers are exposed on hazardous noise on the job. Hearing loss can create safety risks and impact on the quality of the life of the workers. This module will give occupational health nurses an understanding of noise induced hearing loss and hearing conservation programs so that they can protect the workers by championing and setting up hearing conservation programs. Other concepts covered in this course include OSHA standards, audiometric testing, and time and place for PPE for hearing protection. This course is also part of the OHN Prep Course Package.

After completing this course, learners will be able to: 

  • Understand the effect of noise on hearing and purpose of audimetric testing
  • Recognize when the OSHA standard for hearing loss prevention program is needed
  • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of hearing protectors of various types
  •  Define the components of a Hearing Loss prevention program.

This module will give occupational health nurses a fundamental knowledge of core industrial hygiene and safety concepts.
