What you will learn: 

The American Association of Occupational Health Nursing and the American Board for Occupational Health Nursing want OHN nurses to understand their legal responsibilities, the laws that influence the workplace and the ethical codes that occupational health nurses follow in their practice. This module will review the legal responsibilities that occupational health nurses must follow in their practice, the laws that affect workers and the workplace and the ethical codes that nurses need to consider and follow in their work. The module will examine confidential issues, access to medical records and the ethical principles that govern OHN practice. This course is also part of the OHN Prep Course Package.

After completing this course, learners will be able to: 

  • Identify the legal responsibilities of occupational health nursing practice and the laws that affect workers and the workplace.
  • Apply the code of ethics that govern the practice of occupational health nursing.
  • Examine the use of confidentiality with patients and medical records.
