What will you learn: 

Occupational Health Nurses (OHNs) are responsible for maintaining employee medical records in compliance with OSH stand 29 CFR 1910.1020. Many OHNs are also responsible for reporting injuries and illnesses at their workplace in accordance with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1904. With electronic medical records (EMR), reporting can be streamlined to make this responsibility more management and meaningful. This module will cover the benefits of electronic recordkeeping systems, integration of several variables related to exposures, and how real-time information can be collected on surveillance, prevention, and treatment activities within the OHN clinic. This course is also part of the OHN Prep Course Package.

After completing this course, learners will be able to: 

  • Identify the federal requirements for occupational health recordkeeping.
  • Understand how to maintain OSHA required logs and documents.
  • Illustrate how electronic medical records can help to maintain recordkeeping.
  • Incorporate computer technology into occupational health management practice.

This module will describe the regulations that apply in the OHN setting.
