What you will learn:

Occupational health nurses serve patients that come from a variety of occupations. Each occupation comes with their own chemical and substance hazards that they are exposed to. As an OEHN, knowing the effects of these hazards on the body is important when treating the patient and their symptoms. This course aims to equip health professionals with essential knowledge to understand the physiological and chemical interactions of toxicants in the workplace. Additional concepts in this course include dose response rate, toxicant distribution around the body, and classification of different toxicants. This course is also part of the OHN Prep Course Package.

After completing this course, learners will be able to: 

  • Understand the dose response relationship and toxicity
  • Understand exposure routes of entry and how toxicants are distributed throughout the body
  • Describe the different elimination pathways, bioaccumulation, and elimination half-lives.
  • Identify the different physiological classification of toxic substances and different chemical interactions.

This module offers an in-depth exploration of chemical hazards in the workplace and the protective measures needed to ensure safety.

Industrial Hygiene & Safety

This module will give occupational health nurses a fundamental knowledge of core industrial hygiene and safety concepts.

Injury Prevention & Control

This module will prepare OHNs on strategies to prevent injury, gain a deeper understanding of ergonomics, and how it all falls within occupational health.
