What you will learn: 

The ABOHN certification exam was established in 1974. For 50 years, ABOHN has certified occupational health nurses to help advance in their careers and stay up to date on important knowledge. The overall purpose of this module is to prepare Occupational Health Nurses with an adequate knowledge base in occupational health to successfully pass the certification exam. The course will cover the difference between exam options, study tools and resources, and successful test taking strategies. This course is also part of the OHN Prep Course Package.

After completing this course, learners will be able to: 

  • Summarize the differences between the COHN and COHN-S exams
  • List 3 study resources that you will prepare for the ABOHN certification exam
  • Identify the components of successful "test taking" strategy

This module will review common diseases and occupational injuries by body system: Eyes; Ears, Nose & Throat; Cardiac; Musculoskeletal; Skin: and Neurological.

Role of OEHN

This module will discuss the evolution of occupational health nurses and the variety of roles in the many sectors OHNs work in.

Legal and Ethical Issues

This module will review the legal responsibilities that occupational health nurses must follow in their practice and the ethical codes that nurses need to consider and follow in their work.
